    Analog Devices, Inc. Approves Alpha Electronics RWB Series Resistors for Use with Its New AD74413R Integrated Circuit Solution

    Alpha Electronics’ Bulk Metal® Foil Technology-based RWB series improves overall environmental performance and long-term stability

    MALVERN, PA, USA –July 21, 2020 — VPG Foil Resistors, a product group of Vishay Precision Group, Inc. (NYSE:VPG) and a manufacturer of the industry’s most precise and stable precision resistors, today announced that Analog Devices has approved Alpha Electronics RWB100R0AL and RWB2K000AL Bulk Metal® Foil technology resistors for use with their new AD74413R integrated circuit solution.

    The AD74413R is a quad-channel software configurable input/output solution for building and process control applications. Analog Devices noted that the outstanding stability and precision of the RWB100R0AL and RWB2K000AL resistors complement the performance and the AD74413R in real world applications.
    Specifically, the AD74413R datasheet calls for an external 100 Ω ‘RSENSE’ resistor used to measure current output, current input, and RTD values. Analog Devices noted that the accuracy and stability of this resistor directly affect the performance of the circuit. The Alpha Electronics RWB100R0AL resistor was approved by Analog Devices for ‘RSENSE’ due to its outstanding tolerance of 0.05%, TCR of ±2 ppm/°C max. and load-life stability of ±0.005% typical (70°C, 2000 hrs., rated power).

    In addition, an external current limiting resistor of 2 kΩ (ideal) is required for the SENSEH_x pin. The accuracy of this resistor directly affects the RTD specifications. Analog Devices approved the Alpha Electronics RWB2K000AL for the SENSEH_x resistor due to its tight tolerance of 0.05%, TCR of ±2 ppm/°C max. and ultra-low capacitance.


    Made in Japan, the RWA/RWB/RWC Series resistors from Alpha Electronics, a brand of VPG Foil Resistors, feature low TCR of ±2 ppm/°C and resistance tolerance as low as ±0.01% in three case sizes: 0603 (RWA Series), 0805 (RWB Series), and 1206 (RWC Series). Produced with Bulk Metal® Foil technology, the RWA/RWB/RWC Series devices are optimized for industrial applications that require resistors with extremely tight load-life stability of ±0.005% typical at 70°C and rated power for 2,000 hours. In these applications, the devices provide superior TCR (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance), long-term stability and pulse handling capability when compared to thin-film resistors.

    of Alpha Electronics High-Power Precision Shunt Resistors
    Incorporating Bulk Metal Foil Technology


    April 10, 2017 - Malvern, Pa – The VPG Foil Resistors product group of Vishay Precision Group (NYSE: VPG) (www.vpgfoilresistors.com), manufacturers of the industry’s most precise and stable Bulk Metal® Foil resistors, today announced the global market launch of the Alpha Electronics FNP Series, a family of high-power precision shunt resistors.

    Design of the Alpha Electronics FNP Series incorporates VPG’s own proprietary Bulk Metal Foil technology for a low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) down to 0±1 ppm/°C, depending upon selected model. Integration of a Pt100 sensor within the FNP Series allows for accurate onboard temperature monitoring of the resistive element, with added performance stability. Units feature a maximum handling capability of 500W rated power, with no standard resistance value. An integral copper plate helps the FNP Series to achieve an improved thermal resistance specification of 0.1°C/W (0.3°C/W standard), while a resistance tolerance of 0.05% ensures minimized energy consumption. Standard resistance values of the FNP Series range from 0.001 ohm to 1 ohm, with improved maximum ambient temperature to +125°C (from +85°C) for conventional models.

    MALVERN, Pa.
    Sept. 6, 2016 VPG Foil Resistors, a Vishay Precision Group, Inc. (NYSE: VPG) product group, announced today that its Alpha Electronics brand has introduced a new series of precision surface-mount Bulk Metal® Foil resistors that are the first such devices to be manufactured in a fully automated process — providing competitive pricing in high-volume applications for OEMs. Made in Japan, RW Series resistors feature low TCR of ±2 ppm/°C or ±5 ppm/°C and resistance tolerance as low as ±0.01% in 0603, 0805, and 1206 case sizes.

    The devices released today are optimized for precision instrumentation, automatic test equipment, scales, audio equipment and any medical or industrial applications, that require resistors with extemely tight load-life stability of ±0.005% typical at 70°C and rated power for 2,000 hours. In these applications, the devices provide superior TCR and long-term stability when compared to thin film resistors, as well as shorter lead times. In addition, the RW Series’ industry-standard packages eliminate the need for PCB changes in existing designs.


    Offered in the 0603 package with a power rating of 0.1 W and resistance to 5 kW, the RWA is ideal for applications where space savings are a primary concern. The RWB features a 0.2 W power rating and resistance to 10 kW in the most common package size: the 0805. With a 0.3 W power rating and resistance to 30 kW, the RWC is ideal for converting 4 mA to 20 mA input signals into 1 V to 5 V output signals in applications such as factory automation and process control. All three devices are RoHS-compliant.

     This new video tests the stability of Alpha MP and MPP Bulk MetalR Foil high-precision resistors with flexible terminations
     by comparing the performance between two surface-mount resistor technologies under severe vibration testing: a chip-
     style 10 kΩ 1206 thin film resistor and the Alpha MP and MPP Bulk MetalR Foil high-precision resistors with flexible
