Discontinue the ASL resistors production at Akita factory and Close the ASL resistors business.

Alpha Electronics decided not to continue the manufacturing of ASL resistors at Akita factory, and close the ASL resistors business.
The last time buy order should be arrived by January 29,2010 and the final shipment for the last time buy order should be by March 31, 2010.

The replacement products of the ASL resistors will be available from Vishay (Dale) Intertechnologies Ltd. as the WSL “Power Metal Strip Resistors” with pin to pin compatibility.

Alpha Electronics Corp. has begun selling SMT Power Metal Strip resistors in January 2008. The products, being sold as “Alpha ASL series resistors,” are identical to Vishay's WSL series resistors, which are known as the most popular SMD shunt and current sensing resistors in the world.
Alpha Electronics will explore and develop new markets for ASL series resistors in Japan.
Key specifications of the ASL series resistors are as follows:

* Resistance range: 0.001 Ω to 0.5 Ω
* Resistance tolerances: 0.5 ％ and １％
* Temperature coefficient of resistance ( TCR ) : ±75 ppm /℃
* Operating Temperature: −65 ℃ to ＋170 ℃
* Rated Power : 0.25 W to 1 W
* Low thermal EMF : ＜3microV /℃

Under the terms of a licensing agreement with Vishay Intertechnology, ASL series resistors are being manufactured at Alpha's plant in Akita, Japan, which is well known as a foil resistor production site.

In order to comply with market demand for shunt and current sensing resistors, and also provide enhanced service to customers, Alpha is now manufacturing and selling ASL series resistors in Japan. Major markets and applications include computer, medical equipment, telecommunications, dc-to-dc conversion, lithium battery charging, disc drives, automation equipment, and voltage regulation

Alpha will manufacture three models of ASL series resistors (ASL 3216, ASL 5025, and ASL 6432) during its initial stage of production. Subsequently, Alpha will target production of 100 million pieces annually, as additional production equipment is installed.
